A donation from Robertson Homes has helped one of Scotland’s oldest scout groups be prepared for upcoming camping trips.

Robertson made the £500 contribution to the 3rd West Lothian Scout Group in East Calder, which has been in existence for more than 100 years and has 60 members ranging from age six to 15.

The scout group is based close to our Calderwood development of new homes in East Calder and used our donation to purchase a much-needed range of new camping stoves and cooking equipment, a set of pioneering poles, a new projector screen and a media player.

Karen Mercer, sales manager at Robertson Homes, said: “The scout group offers a brilliant service to young people from across East Calder and we were delighted to help them refresh their equipment.

“Scouting not only helps young people learn invaluable life skills, it also provides them with a safe, fun and friendly environment to meet new people and develop long-lasting friendships. We hope many youngsters in our growing new community at Calderwood will benefit from the group’s activities.”

Established in 1919, the 3rd West Lothian Scouts currently has a waiting list of more than 70 local children wanting the join and the Group is on the lookout for adult volunteers to enable them to expand.

Andrew Hay, secretary of West Lothian Scouts, said: “We are very grateful for this kind donation from Robertson Homes which will really help our Group deliver our scouting programme now and in the future.

“With a very large waiting list, we are now hoping to scale up but to do so we need more adult leaders and volunteers and we would love to hear from anyone who can volunteer some time to help us welcome even more local children to the world of scouting.”

Karen added: “Calderwood is proving a very popular location for families to put down roots and it is important we encourage local youth activity groups.

“Robertson Homes is committed to supporting the communities in which we build and we look forward to the West Lothian Scouts going from strength to strength.”
