Learning doesn’t have to be a chore

We’ve all been trying to keep our children safe, happy and entertained during the lockdown and on top of that, parents have been part-time teachers too.

You may have to be sharing a kitchen table, your home office or be working in a makeshift converted cupboard. Wherever you are having to share space with your little ones, sometimes you need half an hour or so to write that really important email or take that Zoom call with a client.

We thought we’d share a few of the resources we’ve been using that have allowed us to co-work with our little ones and keep their education alive and engaging...

English: Creative Writing

Children are the ultimate creatives, rarely held back by their ideas. This website for creative writing positively encourages them to use their imaginations. One picture, one teaching resource, every day https://www.pobble365.com/lets-leave/

Environmental Studies: A Voyage to Galapagos - The Enchanted Isles

Monty Halls, TV presenter and Marine Biologist, walks you through the wonders of life on the Galapagos islands. This is a truly brilliant insight into a world so few of us experience but don’t get distracted from your own work in the process! View here.

Maths: Whilst playing games

Not many kids enjoy doing hard sums but somehow when it is turned into a game, it becomes acceptable! With a huge breadth of learning games, Maths Frame is a great resource. View here.

Science: Make a fizzy bottle rocket

The Royal Institution has some amazing videos for a rainy day but this one is best created outdoors. Wait for the squeals of excitement as the rocket flies into the air! How to make one found here:

Geography: BBC bitesize mountains

How mountains are formed, famous ridges, and what life is like living in there. BBC Bitesize has created a whole raft of educational resources but this is one of our favourites: View here.

If working from home is going to be something you are likely to be doing a lot more of in the future and if your current home isn’t a workable space, we have some amazing properties available across Scotland and the North East of England that is designed for how modern families live and work.
