Live In Dunbar

The East Lothian town’s wide, historic high street is home to an excellent range of independent retail outlets. It is particularly distinguished by the 16th century Town House, with a witch’s hat tower and its bell, clock and sundials. The harbour is always a pleasant spot to watch the fishing boats and pleasure craft in summer. And with three fine beaches, the town is a haven for families throughout the year.

The town has three excellent schools: Dunbar primary, Dunbar grammar and Belhaven Hill School, a private boarding and day prep school for seven to thirteen-year-olds.

Getting around

Dunbar is popular for its easy commute to Edinburgh (just a 20-minute train journey or a 40-minute drive). Many pleasant beaches are nearby on the East Lothian coastline, as is the inland countryside with the Lammermuir Hills and the Scottish Borders within easy reach.

A haven for golfers

The beaches and golfing facilities attract golfers and tourists all year round. Dunbar Golf Club hosted the first PGA Championship on the European Tour in 1968. Winterfield golf club has stunning views of the Firth of Forth, the Bass Rock and the Isle of May.

NEWTON MANOR, QUEENS ROAD, OFF A1087, DUNBAR, EH42 1ZX From Edinburgh and Glasgow, follow signs for the City of Edinburgh Bypass. Continue on the Bypass until you reach Sheriffhall Roundabout then take the 3rd exit to stay on the Bypass. At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A1 slip road to Berwick upon Tweed/A1. Continue on this road for 20 miles until you reach Thistly Cross Roundabout, take the 3rd exit to continue on the A1. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto Spott Road and continue through the next roundabout. At the T-junction turn right onto the A1087/Bowmont Terrace. Continue on this road and Newton Manor will be on your right hand side.
