LIFE IN BURNOPFIELD

Bowes Manor is set within Burnopfield. It offers a stunning rural setting just 9 miles from the centre of Newcastle and 13 miles from Durham. Local amenities include a post office, hairdressers, barbers, dentist and doctors. There's also a choice of takeaways and convenience stores.

LOCAL HISTORY

The village is situated on a plateau, 565ft above sea level and is adjacent to the Derwent Valley. Historically the village was a combination of three hamlets namely Burnopfield. This incorporated Sheep Hill, Busty Bank and Raglan Place, The Leazes and The Lintz. Over time these have combined to become one village named Burnopfield.

Gibside Estate, just over two miles from the development, is one of a few surviving 18th century designed landscapes. It's set within 600 acres of gardens, woodland, and countryside, perfect for wildlife spotting. Highlights include a Neo-classical chapel, restored stable block and a grand ruin. As Gibside is part of the National Trust, all members benefit from free entry throughout the year.

Just a few miles away, experience a part of history and enjoy a ride on the world's oldest railway, Tanfield Railway. This is a preserved steam train built in 1725. Take a six-mile round trip through the spectacular wooded valley.

SPORT AND LEISURE

Not only is Gibside Estate famous for its history but it's also a great day out for the family. There are four different walking routes to choose from and a challenging low-ropes course. Plus there's a children's adventure playground full of swings, a zip wire, a wooden fortress, sand and water!

For sporting enthusiasts, Burnopfield is home to Hobson Golf Club, Lintz Cricket Club and Burnopfield Cricket Club. The Golf Club offers an 18-hole course suitable for players of all abilities. The Club House has two bars to enjoy food and drinks while admiring the fantastic views across the course. Burnopfield Cricket Club welcomes new players of all ages and abilities. It has junior and senior teams who compete in leagues throughout the North East.

Beamish, the Living Museum of the North is just over 5 miles away. Explore this world-famous open-air museum as you learn the story of everyday life in the North East throughout the years.

Head to the Metrocentre for some retail therapy. It's just over 5 miles from the development and is one of the largest indoor shopping centres in the UK. It has a huge variety of shops, restaurants and leisure amenities including a cinema complex and bowling alley.
