You don’t need to buy a wicker basket to live in Auchterarder but at some stage, as you browse fascinating, artisan shops, you will probably consider it. You also don’t need a backpack but may find yourself with rucksack-envy, watching lithe walkers striding out into the nearby hills and leaving you behind.

Then, of course, you might want a wee Lulu Guinness clutch for when you are treated to lunch in the Dormy House at Gleneagles Hotel down the road. Choices. Choices. Choices.

That’s the thing about Auchterarder; it’s whatever you want it to be. With first-class road links to all major Scottish cities and a commuter rail station on the doorstep, it’s a hub for commuters in every direction. Yet for others, it’s more of a holiday destination, is nestled at the foot of the Perthshire hills with walking, climbing, clay pigeon shooting, biking and even paragliding at your fingertips. (Assuming the thought of paragliding with your fingertips doesn’t leave you feeling queasy)

The town itself is a magnet for the Sunday-afternoon set who enjoy walking around a thriving town which has had the wisdom and the wealth to retain its character and historic buildings. Auchterarder is also successful enough to support many small, independent businesses, from hairdressers to bistros, and cafes with mouthwatering cakes, scones and hot chocolate for the dreich days.

Despite its central location as almost a gateway to the Highlands, Auchterarder allows a commute into Glasgow, Edinburgh or Stirling in around an hour so those lucky enough to call the town home, hurry home at night to make the most of staying in one of the most desirable locations Scotland has to offer.

When land became available at Strathearn Gardens, Robertson Homes jumped at it for all those reasons. We can build lovely homes, (and win regular awards for doing just that), but people, and history, and setting, and amenities, and community are made of so much more than bricks and mortar.

With Auchterarder, quality of life come for free – and there’s the conundrum, that living in a town with quite so much to offer, remains cheaper than living in many cramped, city centre locations, with no sniff of that fresh Perthshire air.

At Strathearn Gardens, we can still offer 3,4 & 5 bedroom home with first-rate kitchens and appliances; choice of designer tiles and finishes from £226,000. We are shortly to launch gorgeous 2 bedroom apartments as well, which make living well with breathtaking views even more affordable.

See all our homes for sale but let’s keep it unspoilt. Or to put it another way, don’t let the cat out of the bag. Any cat. Any bag.
