We’re currently hanging out the flags that Robertson Homes has again been shortlisted in prestigious industry awards. We enthusiastically revel in the fact that we won the title 'Scottish Homebuilder of the Year' a few months ago, and also lifted the prize for 'House of the Year' at the same event, hosted by the Scottish Home Awards.
This time, we have been shortlisted in all three categories we entered in the Herald newspaper awards (for Showhome, Luxury Home and Family Home of the Year) and we will be there at the ceremony in November, genuinely applauding everyone else but still hoping fervently that the prize comes to us.
It’s not so much that I like award dinners or am desperate for another portion of Scottish Cranachan; it’s more that as a company, our culture is most definitely one of celebrating success.
We don’t build houses just to make up numbers and we don’t enter awards merely to fill up a trophy cabinet. We genuinely strive to be the best we can be, at all levels, and when this is recognised, we are only too happy to receive the compliment with good grace and genuine pleasure.
Being shortlisted means we can go back and thank the architect; the bricklayer; the landscape gardener and the interior designer who all gave of their best to create the best possible home.
It also means we can celebrate with those families who make the choice to buy a Robertson Home. We put as much effort into our competition entries as we do to everything else and it’s lovely to share success with both the creators and ultimate beneficiaries of all that hard work.
It’s not hubris, it’s broadly-smiling, genuinely chuffed, hard-working, unpretentious pride.
