LOCATION AND LOCAL AREA
HISTORY OF ELWICK
Living at Elwick Gate is a lifestyle that busy professionals and retired customers will aspire to live; the development location will provide residents an oasis of calm and tranquillity. The peace and seclusion offered by Elwick Gate contrasts with its exceptional convenience.
Locally there is great community feel; Elwick village was first laid out by the Normans, based on an earlier Saxon settlement; it is typical of a Norman village having the dwellings surrounding an enclosed village green, that runs east to west.
The green and the area around it, has been given Conservation Area status by Hartlepool Borough Council. The Parish Council maintains the green and the trees upon it on behalf of the residents. There is a small Wildlife Garden located in the village, developed at the turn of the century as part of a ‘Britain in Bloom’ entry, by the Elwick Residents Association. The garden is now maintained by the Parish Council.
Furthermore, Elwick was famous in the nineteenth century for breeding and training racehorses, several of which became winners of classical races. The Mcorville Inn pub is actually named after two of its most successful racehorses.
The development has excellent transport links with easy access to the A19 motorway making the development an ideal location for professionals. The East Coast Main Line linking Newcastle and Edinburgh is particularly convenient from Darlington station, which also enjoys regular cross-county services to Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.
Furthermore, it has been announced recently by the Major of the Tees Valley that works have started to redevelop Hartlepool Train Station, along with new investment zones in Middlesborough, Hartlepool and Teesside Airport.
Durham Tees Valley airport is 25 minutes away from the development, with its specialist oil and gas industry routes to Scotland and Norway plus internal UK and European hub destinations. Newcastle International Airport is a 50 minutes’ drive and particularly well connected to international hubs such as Paris, London, Amsterdam, Brussels and Dubai.

There are three primary schools close to the development including Hart Primary School achieving an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating and St Peters Elwick Primary School, rated ‘Excellent’.
