Community and local area

Living in Backworth

Backworth Park boasts a variety of great traditional pubs and local carvery restaurants. For the everyday shop you have a selection of local independent shops plus larger supermarkets including Sainsbury's and Asda are a short drive away.

The village can trace its roots back to the 13th century and more recently as a thriving 19th century coal mining and brick making hub. It’s still a major focus for local employment through the thriving Cobalt Business Park with transport links to Northumberland Park Metro Station within easy walking distance.

The local primary school has received 'outstanding' status from Ofsted, with a brand new school building planned for the 2018 session. A new secondary school forms part of the nearby Killingworth Moor facilities, leading to excellent education opportunities for families moving to the area.

Getting around

The thriving village is centrally located about 6m from the busy hub of Newcastle, easy access to the A19 for commuting or leisure activities North & South not to mention close to the Metro station and frequent bus services and yet has a wonderful greenbelt setting stretching into the beautiful Northumberland Hills.

Situated only 20 mins north, Morpeth hosts seaside delights and heading east you are only 10mins away from Blue Flag beaches of Whitley Bay.

Iconically English

With successful cricket and golf clubs nearby, Backworth Colliery Band and a male voice choir, there’s no shortage of heritage and leisure opportunities. You can hop on the North Tyneside Steam Railway or go prospecting for Roman gold to match the local hoard uncovered in 1812, now residing in the British Museum.
